Ohhh man these repairs going on around here have been a blast. Literally. Yesterday without warning they ripped up our front walk. And the neighbors. So now we have to walk through thick prickly evergreen bushes to leave the house, because we have no back door :-/ Well we have a back door technically, but no way to exit our yard.

First of all, we rent. So none of these improvements really benefit us too much, except for maybe the new windows which will help our home's energy efficiency. What happened is, the builder was crappy. The homeowner's association sued the builder and won. So all summer long they have been fixing things. It's been very inconvenient. The neighborhood has been FULL of workers, trucks, bulldozers, making it impossible to find parking spots and sometimes to drive where we need to drive, or to get our mail. It's been messy, dirty, debris everywhere. Throughout the summer they have replaced our entire roof, done our gutters, and replaced part of our driveway. Now they have started another round on our building. Monday they ripped all the windows off the back of the house (without much warning) and replaced them. They left debris all over our back deck, and they dropped things from 2nd floor, damaging our patio furniture. It was also lovely when they did the sliding door in the kitchen and then suddenly 6 workers are hanging out in my kitchen without me letting them in. Such a weird and uncomfortable feeling. The next day, they came into my house to put plastic down for an upcoming crawlspace repair. They will still have to come in to seal all the windows from the inside.
Now they have done the windows on the front of the house... and yesterday the front walkway demo. Looks like today they might pour the new stuff, but who knows around here.
Upcoming - they are still replacing all the siding on the house AND repainting the whole house.
They already owe us for damaged patio furniture, and a sensor for our alarm system. There was a sensor on the sliding door. the wire is just hanging there now and they threw the old door away with the sensor on it. That's $90 that I'm not paying for!
Sorry - it just feels so good to vent. I will be so happy when all of this is over. Our landlords have been awesome and tried so hard to help us through this, but it's not their decision either, we all just have to deal.
